Description

This is a FireFox extension which notifies end users when a coupon, promotion or deal is available at a web site they are currently viewing. It also provides the end user with the ability to share the coupon through their Twitter and Facebook account.

General Behavior

When the end user arrives to a merchant's web site who is partnered with AllFreeCoupons, a message box is displayed below the Tabs area in Firefox as shown in the screen shot below.

The end user is provided with four options: 

  • View Coupons: Takes the end user to the AllFreeCoupons' web site of the merchant's coupon detail page
  • Tweet: Tweets a link to the affiliate site
  • Share: Posts a link to the affiliate site on FaceBook
  • Close: Closes the message bar

Revenue Generation Behavior

Below is a summary of the observed behavoir of the AllFreeCoupons Firefox extension as related to revenue generation:

  • The extension is activated by visiting certain merchant's domains
  • The extension potentially diverts traffic from a merchant's web site to their own web site
  • The extension does not automatically set the affiliate tracking link (i.e. a forced click)
  • The extension will potentially display the messaging box regardless of the traffic source to the merchant's domain (i.e. direct type-ins to the merchant, PPCSE listings for the merchant, email campaigns for merchant, traffic from other affiliates, etc)
  • The extension does not directly drive unique visitors to the merchant's web site as it is activated only when the end user is already on the merchant's site
  • The extension tracks the web sites visited by end user as the mechanism to determine whether or not the extension should display the messaging box (see screen shot below)
